Meet Rocio Orta

 

Mrs. Rocio Orta is the founder, President and CEO of Plum Insurance Services, an independently owned and managed Surplus Line Wholesale Brokerage located in sunny Southern California.    Rocio began her insurance career in 1983 and has dedicated her professional life’s work to brokering and underwriting professional liability and specialty lines and is well versed in retail, wholesale, and in-house contract underwriting and binding authority for both the London market and domestic carriers.

Prior to founding Plum,  Rocio was an equity partner and President/CEO of American Special Risk Insurance Services (ASR), a Lloyd’s coverholder located in Woodland Hills, California.  In addition to overviewing all operations, Rocio was the Lead Underwriter on all ASR’s Lloyd’s Binding Facilities, including Insurance Agents’ E&O, Miscellaneous Professional Liability, PL/GL Combination policies, and Allied Health PL, and Allied Health PL/GL policies.  In addition, she had Lawyers Professional Liability underwriting authority for a specialty Lloyd’s Syndicate.

In the mid-2000’s, Rocio launched and successfully ran and grew the Professional Liability Division at WSS Insurance Brokers in Pasadena, California and was selected Lead Underwriter for the first-ever Miscellaneous Professional Liability Binding Authority granted by Colony Insurance.

A strong believer in professional self-development, Rocio has invested significant time and effort in acquiring formal Cyber insurance education and is the recipient of Harvard’s Certification in Cybersecurity: Managing Risk in the Information Age.   Additionally, she has also received The Institutes’ Cyber Risk Fundamentals and Managing Cyber Risk Certificates as well as IRMI’s  Cyber and Privacy Exposures & Insurance Coverage, and Cyber Risk: Understanding How Multiple Policies Intersect.   Rocio is also a CPCU and RPLU and holds the ASLI, AINS, and CyRM professional designations.

In her free time, Rocio enjoys reading and expanding her knowledge on nutritional science and personal development.  She loves her husband, dogs, and of course her three grown-up kids, and is a devout football (soccer) and Real Madrid fan.
